Three rebuilt Ohio Rest Areas along I-70 in Belmont and Washington counties are now open, supporting upgraded facilities on a key interstate route.

Governor Mike DeWine’s celebrated the openings of three new Ohio Rest Areas along the interstate route I‑70. They are in Belmont and Washington counties. Each rest area was totally rebuilt. The updates bring safer, cleaner stops for drivers.
Ohio plans to build 36 new rest areas and update more than 40 by the end of 2026. This effort will bring many more options for rest for drivers of all types.
These Rest Areas now offer better lighting, fresh pavement, and cleaner restrooms. They also have more space for trucks. The upgrades make it easier to park, walk around, and stretch. The focus was on safety and comfort.
I‑70 is a busy route for big rigs and small cars alike. These Ohio Rest Areas sit right on that path. They mean reliable stops for long-haul drivers. It helps cut fatigue and supports safer travel across the state.
One of the refreshed Areas now includes a universal changing station. It sits in a family restroom. The station has an adjustable table. It fits people of all heights, weights, and mobility needs. This makes restrooms more usable for people with disabilities and their helpers.
This universal station is the first of 29 to come at Ohio Rest Areas. Two stations are already open on I‑71 in Fayette County. Seventeen more are set to open in 2025. Ten more will follow by 2026. It shows Ohio is stepping up on accessibility.
Each upgraded Rest Area now offers clear signs, clean restrooms, and safe parking. They suit long hauls or short breaks on road trips. Families, truckers, and travelers can feel better about stopping.
These changes make stops simpler and quieter. Travelers can walk dogs, grab a snack, or take a rest in a clean spot. The new Ohio Rest Areas add comfort and trust to journeys.
The three open sites are just the start. More upgrades are on the way, state‑wide. These Ohio Rest Areas stand for safer roads, better access, and a more welcoming Ohio for all.
