New Truck Traffic Ban in Morrisville Borough Announced

According to a press release, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a new ban on heavy trucks on S. Pennsylvania Avenue in Morrisville Borough. This ban will stop trucks over 10 tons from using the road. The change is aimed at making life better for people living in the area by reducing heavy truck traffic.

Truck Traffic Ban Was a Long Time Coming

Residents and local officials have been concerned about heavy trucks on this road for years. Senator Steve Santarsiero has worked closely with them to make this change happen. “When Morrisville Borough residents and officials first brought the issue of excessive truck traffic on S. Pennsylvania Avenue to my attention, it was clear it would take time to find the right solution,” said Santarsiero. “The prohibition of trucks on S. Pennsylvania Avenue will bring relief to residents and ensure the structural integrity of the roadbed remains intact.”

Steps Taken to Reduce Truck Traffic

The new truck ban is one of many steps taken to solve this problem. In 2021, PennDOT lowered the speed limit on S. Pennsylvania Avenue after doing a traffic study. In 2022, the speed limit was lowered again to make the road safer. In 2023, the road’s classification was changed to help set the stage for this ban.

Local officials also worked with Google Maps to guide trucks away from the residential area. This move has helped reduce the number of heavy trucks on the road. Representative Jim Prokopiak, who recently joined the effort, said, “This action will increase the quality of life and safety for Morrisville residents, especially those living near Pennsylvania Ave.”

What’s Next for the Community

The ban will apply to all trucks over 10 tons, loaded or not, on S. Pennsylvania Avenue between Philadelphia Avenue and Tyburn Road. PennDOT will put up signs soon to let drivers know about the change, and enforcement will start shortly after.

Helen Hlahol, President of the Morrisville Borough Council, thanked everyone involved for their hard work. “This latest positive change will greatly improve the quality of life for all residents of Morrisville Borough and help fulfill our long-term vision of revitalizing our historic and wonderful river town community,” she said.

Looking Ahead

This truck ban is a big win for the people of Morrisville Borough. It shows a strong commitment to improving safety and making the area a better place to live. Senator Santarsiero added, “Thank you to the residents of Morrisville Borough for your patience as we all navigated this process together. Today’s announcement, paired with the changes already in place, will improve the lives of Borough residents.”

The ban on heavy trucks marks a major step toward a safer and quieter community, thanks to the hard work of state and local officials.
