International Motors recalls nearly 15,000 trucks due to a windshield wiper defect that may reduce visibility & increase risk of crashes in certain conditions.

Windshield Wiper Defect Sparks Safety Recall

International Motors, LLC is recalling nearly 15,000 trucks from the 2025 and 2026 model years. The issue involves a windshield wiper problem that could reduce driver visibility. This defect raises the risk of a crash, especially during rain or snow.

The recall was announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It has been listed under campaign number 25V-276.

The defect is tied to the linkage that connects the right-side wiper arm to the motor. That linkage may disconnect from the motor during use. If this happens, the wiper can fail without warning.

Models Affected by the International Motors Truck Recall

Five truck models are impacted by this recall. They include:

  • HV (2025–2026)
  • HX (2025–2026)
  • LT (2025–2026)
  • MV (2025–2026)
  • RH (2025–2026)

All of the affected trucks were built between November 11, 2024, and April 9, 2025. They were manufactured at International’s plants in San Antonio, Escobedo, and Springfield.

International Motors Traces Problem to Supplier and Production

The issue was first discovered on January 31, 2025. During a pre-delivery inspection at the Escobedo plant, a vehicle was found with a separated wiper linkage. Another similar case was found on February 6.

By mid-February, the company had identified two warranty claims showing the same defect. International responded by halting deliveries from all three of its assembly plants on February 20.

Vehicles were then sorted using a timed wiper operation test. Some trucks failed the test. These units had linkage sockets that did not meet design specifications.

International worked with its supplier, Trico Products, to find the cause. Trico started sorting parts and building new wiper modules with sockets that matched the correct dimensions. Those updated modules were sent to International by March 10.

However, problems continued. On March 12, International again halted deliveries after discovering failures in modules built with the updated parts. Trico resumed its investigation.

Material Change and Final Fix

On April 9, Trico identified an unauthorized material change in the linkage sockets. This change was not detected during early testing. Trico then used the correct material and built 144 new wiper modules. None of those modules failed testing.

International confirmed the final batch of wipers met the proper standards. It identified a “clean point” on April 12 and finalized the list of affected vehicles by April 16. A formal recall was declared the next day.

No Advance Warning for Drivers

According to International’s recall report, there are no warning signs that the defect is about to happen. This means drivers could lose wiper function without any notice.

International Motors Repairs, Notifications, and Support

To fix the issue, dealers will replace the full wiper module. The repair will be provided at no cost. International’s recall number is 25505.

Dealer notifications will begin on June 16, 2025. Owner letters will follow on June 23.

For questions, owners can call International customer service at 1-800-448-7825. They can also contact NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov.

Ongoing Oversight and Legal Requirements

International must now follow strict reporting rules. This includes quarterly and annual updates to NHTSA on the recall’s progress.

Federal law also blocks the sale of any vehicles that haven’t been repaired. This applies to trucks still sitting in dealer inventory.
