Hunt Transportation History

Founded in 1927 as a livestock hauler at the Omaha Stockyards, Hunt Transportation evolved into a premier flatbed and specialized carrier. Acquired by Duane Acklie in 1999, it became part of the Crete Carrier family, alongside Shaffer Trucking, operating as a specialized, nationwide division.

Key details in the history of Hunt Transportation:

  • Origins: Originally, the company focused on transporting livestock from the old Omaha Stockyards.
  • Acquisition: In 1999, Matt Hunt sold the company to Duane Acklie, owner of Crete Carrier Corporation.
  • Role in Crete Family: Hunt functions as the specialized flatbed division of the Crete Carrier family, which is one of the largest privately-held transportation companies in the US.
  • Operations: Headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, the company operates over 250 power units and 600 flatbed, drop-deck RGN, and curtain side trailers.
  • Services: They provide specialized transportation across the continental United States, focusing on industries requiring flatbed, rather than dry van or refrigerated equipment.

Today, Hunt Transportation, along with Crete Carrier and Shaffer Trucking, provides comprehensive freight services throughout North America.
