ELD Removal Expands as FMCSA Revokes 10 Devices

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has announced another ELD Removal, taking 10 electronic logging devices off its list of registered ELDs after determining they no longer meet federal technical requirements.

Motor carriers using any of the affected devices have up to 60 days to replace them with a compliant ELD. Until then, drivers must switch to paper logs or logging software to remain compliant with federal hours-of-service rules.

Which Devices Are Affected by The ELD Removal?

According to FMCSA, the latest ELD Removal affects the following devices:

• 888 ELD
• DRAGON ELD
• ACTION ELD
• Mondo ELD HOS
• FIRST ELD
• FIRST ELD V2.0
• MTL ELD
• USPower ELD
• Sam Freight ELD
• DSGELOGS

The agency said these devices were moved to its Revoked Devices list because their providers failed to meet the minimum technical requirements established under the federal ELD regulations.

What Drivers and Carriers Need to Do

FMCSA said carriers using one of the revoked devices should immediately:

• Stop using the revoked ELD.
• Use paper logs or logging software to record required hours-of-service information.
• Replace the device with one listed on FMCSA’s Registered Devices list within the 60-day compliance period.

For this latest ELD Removal, the replacement deadline is September 8, 2026. Until that date, enforcement officials are encouraged to review paper logs, logging software, or the revoked device’s display as a backup instead of issuing certain ELD-related violations.

What Happens After the Deadline?

After September 8, carriers that continue using one of the revoked devices will be considered as operating without a registered ELD.

FMCSA said drivers found using one of the affected devices after the deadline may be cited for failing to use a registered ELD and could be placed out of service under the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s Out-of-Service Criteria.

FMCSA Continues Expanding ELD Removal Actions

This is the latest in a series of ELD Removal actions taken by FMCSA this year.

The agency says it has continued removing devices that fail to comply with federal standards as part of its effort to maintain the integrity of the electronic logging device program. Previous enforcement actions have affected dozens of devices from multiple providers throughout 2026.

FMCSA Administrator Derek D. Barrs said electronic logging devices must meet federal standards because they play an important role in maintaining accurate hours-of-service records and supporting roadway safety.

For most truck drivers, the ELD Removal will only be relevant if their carrier uses one of the affected devices. However, carriers and owner-operators should confirm that their ELD remains on FMCSA’s list of registered devices.

A device that was compliant when it was installed can later be removed if the provider no longer meets FMCSA’s technical requirements. Replacing a revoked device before the deadline can help carriers avoid violations, out-of-service orders, and disruptions during roadside inspections.

Throughout 2026, the agency has removed multiple devices from its list of registered ELDs after determining they no longer complied with federal standards. The latest action adds 10 more devices to the growing Revoked Devices List.
