Motive has released a new tool called Motive AI Coach, adding to the growing trend of AI trucking technology. It uses artificial intelligence to give drivers custom coaching through video. The announcement came during Motive’s Vision 25 summit in Austin, Texas.

The company says this is the first AI avatar system that can deliver coaching at scale. The goal is to help fleets improve safety, reduce risk, and boost performance. At the same time, it is designed to lower the amount of time safety managers spend on driver coaching—an increasing need in today’s AI trucking landscape.

Coaching Challenges for Large Fleets

Driver coaching plays a big role in keeping roads safe. But coaching large fleets is not easy. Safety managers are often in charge of hundreds of drivers. It takes time to plan, schedule, and hold each session. According to Motive, it can take 16 days after a safety event to schedule a coaching session. That delay can allow risky driving habits to continue.

Even when coaching happens, it can be hard to keep things consistent. If drivers don’t get timely and clear feedback, the same unsafe behavior may happen again. The rise of AI trucking solutions like Motive’s new tool aims to change that.

Motive’s New Approach to Coaching

Motive AI Coach is designed to solve these problems. The system uses avatars to deliver personalized coaching through short videos. These avatars are powered by large language models, or LLMs. The scripts are customized for each driver and based on their behavior.

Motive says the videos help drivers understand what went wrong. The goal is to help them improve quickly. The feedback is meant to be fast, engaging, and easy to understand.

The platform picks out the most serious and high-impact safety events. It then explains what happened and why it matters. Fleets can choose from a set of pre-made avatars, or they can create their own.

AI Trucking Coach’s Early Data and Industry Feedback

Some companies are already using the new tool. RoadSafe Traffic Systems is one example. Tim Guy, VP of Safety at the company, said it’s already making a difference.

“Timely and consistent coaching is one of the biggest roadblocks to driver safety,” Guy said. “Motive’s AI Coach changes that, allowing us to deliver personalized feedback instantly, and at scale, without overloading our team. Motive AI Coach builds on earlier coaching tools from the company. These include its Integrated Coaching system and the Driver App. Both tools help drivers understand past safety events.

With AI Coach, Motive aims to take coaching one step further. The company says the tool saves time and gives each driver the feedback they need. It is designed for fleets that want to improve safety without hiring more staff.

As AI trucking becomes more common in fleet operations, tools like this one show how automation can help solve long-standing industry challenges. The tool is now available for use by fleets that are already part of the Motive platform. More updates may come later to add new features and customization options.
