Brake Pressure Switch Recall Hits International CV Trucks

Over 6,800 Trucks Recalled Due to Brake Pressure Switch Fire Risk

International Motors, LLC is recalling 6,814 International CV trucks due to a defect linked to the brake pressure switch. These trucks were manufactured between 2019 and 2025. The issue can lead to an electrical short, which may cause a fire whether the truck is in motion or parked.

The recall has been filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) under campaign number 25V414000.

Brake Pressure Switch Failure Tied to Hydraulic Brake Systems

The recalled trucks are equipped with hydraulic brake systems that use a Hydromax brake booster. These systems include specific brake pressure switch components identified by feature codes 0004198 and 0004240.

These vehicles were previously part of a 2023 recall (23V282) aimed at addressing a similar brake system defect. However, some vehicles that underwent the original repair may still have brake fluid trapped in the fuse harness.

This fluid can corrode internal wiring and raise resistance in the circuit. As the manufacturer noted, “brake fluid in the harness can corrode the wire and fuse, adding more resistance which may increase the risk of fire.”

Brake Pressure Switch Fire Risk Found During GM Inspection

The issue first came to light on May 5, 2025, when General Motors (GM) notified International Motors of a thermal event in one of its own vehicles. That vehicle had previously been repaired under a similar GM recall.

On May 28, GM and International conducted a joint inspection. They found that the fire had originated at the fuse holder in the brake pressure switch harness. GM’s follow-up analysis confirmed that brake fluid had entered the wiring.

By June 10, International Motors stated that no similar fires had occurred in its vehicles. However, the company acknowledged that some wiring harnesses may still contain brake fluid, especially if the harness wasn’t replaced during previous repairs. This risk led to the new recall action.

Updated Remedy for Defective Brake Pressure Switch Harnesses

To correct the issue, International Motors will install a redesigned brake pressure switch and fuse harness in affected vehicles. The new harness includes an anti-capillary wire that stops brake fluid from wicking through copper wiring.

This remedy will apply to all trucks that were previously repaired under recall 23V282, as well as any trucks that still need repair. The earlier process allowed for inspection only, but that method will no longer be used. Full replacement is now required.

Recall Timeline and Repair Plan

Dealer notifications are scheduled to go out by August 4, 2025. Owners will receive recall letters starting August 11. All repairs related to the issue will be performed free of charge.

Until the repair is completed, owners are advised to “park outside and away from structures” to avoid the risk of a fire from a shorted brake pressure switch circuit.

International Motors has also confirmed it will reimburse owners who previously paid for related repairs. The reimbursement plan was filed with NHTSA in June 2024.

How to Check Recall Status

Truck owners with questions can call International Motors at 1-800-448-7825. The internal recall number for this issue is 25507.

Owners can also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.nhtsa.gov. Using the VIN lookup tool, owners can check if their vehicle is affected by the brake pressure switch recall.

This recall is being carried out in phases. Some owners may receive notification later than others. While no fires have been reported so far in International CV trucks, the company is taking steps now to prevent any future risk tied to the brake pressure switch.
