FMCSA announces ELD removal, revoking three devices, and setting a Nov. 3 deadline for carriers to switch units while using paper logs in the interim.

New FMCSA ELD Removal: How To Verify Compliance

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) announced a major ELD removal on September 4, 2025. Three devices were revoked from the Registered Devices list. This decision triggers a 60-day replacement period ending November 3, 2025. FMCSA says each provider failed to meet minimum technical standards outlined in 49 CFR Part 395, Appendix A.

Which Devices Were Revoked

FMCSA confirmed the following devices are no longer approved:

  • TT ELD PT30
    Model: ARN752
    Identifier: CZGS10
    Provider: TT ELD Inc

  • ELOG42
    Model: ERS
    Identifier: ERS156
    Provider: Leko INC

  • RENAISSANCE ELD
    Model: RNSSNC
    Identifier: RNS592
    Provider: RENAISSANCE ELD

The ELD removal notice took effect immediately on September 4.

ELD Removal: FMCSA Requirements for Carriers

Carriers using these revoked models must stop using them right away. FMCSA requires fleets to switch to paper logs or compliant logging software during this period. The agency gives 60 days to install a new approved device. That deadline is November 3, 2025.

Enforcement and Compliance Timeline in ELD Removal Notice

Inspectors will not cite drivers for “No record of duty status” [395.8(a)(1)] or “Failing to use a registered ELD” [395.22(a)] until after November 3. Drivers must show paper logs or use the display screen of their device as backup.

After November 3, fleets that keep using revoked devices risk citations. Enforcement officers will treat those carriers as operating without a valid ELD. Drivers could be placed out of service under CVSA rules.

Who Is Affected by ELD Removal?

Owner-operators and fleets using TT ELD PT30, ELOG42, or RENAISSANCE ELD need to act. FMCSA urges all carriers to check device identifiers carefully. Providers may fix issues and return devices to the approved list, but until then, these units are not compliant.

Why Devices Get Revoked?

To appear on FMCSA’s Registered Devices list, each unit must meet strict technical requirements. Revocations happen if the device or provider fails to meet standards for hardware, software, or data transfer. FMCSA says these three devices failed to meet the minimum requirements.

ELD Removal: How To Verify a Device

Carriers should confirm their devices’ status:

  • Review FMCSA’s Registered Devices list to ensure compliance.
  • Check model numbers and identifiers with providers.
  • Keep records showing updates or replacements.

These steps help fleets stay compliant during audits and roadside inspections.

Steps for a Smooth Transition after ELD Removal

Fleets can reduce risk with a plan:

  • Document the switch. Keep receipts and work orders.
  • Maintain complete logs. Paper records or software logs are required.
  • Train drivers and staff on how to handle logs during this period.
  • Schedule installations early to avoid delays.
  • Test new devices to ensure data transfer works correctly.

Context and Industry Oversight on ELD Removal

This action follows similar removals earlier in 2025. In July, FMCSA revoked WALKER ELD and SR ELD. In January, six other devices were removed. The agency is actively reviewing devices to ensure compliance in the ELD market.

If a provider corrects all deficiencies, FMCSA will add the device back to the list. Until then, fleets must replace revoked devices by November 3, 2025.
