FMCSA Grants Worth $217 Million Enter Final Day for New Applications
FMCSA Grants totaling $217 million close June 17, supporting CDL systems, driver training, safety technology, and enforcement programs nationwide.
FMCSA Grants Deadline Arrives June 17
The deadline for several major FMCSA Grants programs is June 17, giving eligible states, educational institutions, nonprofits, and other organizations one final day to apply for a share of more than $217 million in federal funding.
The funding was announced earlier this year as part of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s effort to strengthen commercial driver licensing systems, improve trucking safety, support workforce development, and deploy new enforcement technology.
While individual truck drivers cannot apply directly for the funding, the programs could influence future CDL systems, driver training opportunities, and commercial vehicle safety initiatives across the country.
FMCSA Grants Support CDL Systems and Safety
The available FMCSA Grants cover several programs, including the Commercial Driver’s License Program Implementation (CDLPI), Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Safety Training (CMVOST), High Priority Commercial Motor Vehicle (HP-CMV), and High Priority Innovative Technology Deployment (HP-ITD) programs.
According to FMCSA, the funding can be used to:
- Improve state CDL systems
- Strengthen compliance with federal CDL regulations
- Support commercial driver training programs
- Expand workforce development efforts
- Improve enforcement technology and safety programs
- Enhance data sharing between state and federal agencies
Federal officials have said the grants are intended to improve roadway safety while helping ensure commercial drivers are properly trained, licensed, and qualified.
Largest Program Focuses on CDL Improvements
The largest portion of the funding is available through the CDL Program Implementation grant program.
FMCSA expects approximately $105 million to be distributed through the program, which supports state efforts to improve CDL administration and compliance with federal requirements.
Additional funding is available through programs that support commercial driver training and help military veterans transition into trucking careers.
Deadline Is June 17
Organizations interested in applying for FMCSA Grants must submit their applications by 11:59 p.m. ET on June 17, 2026..
The funding announcement comes as FMCSA continues to place greater emphasis on CDL integrity, safety enforcement, technology modernization, and efforts to remove unqualified drivers from the nation’s roadways.
What Happens Next?
After the application period closes, FMCSA will review submissions and announce award recipients at a later date.
The selected projects are expected to support state agencies, training organizations, and safety programs that directly affect the commercial trucking industry and the drivers who operate within it.
