ELD Removal: Three Devices Revoked From FMCSA Approved List
ELD Removal comes after FMCSA revoked three devices that no longer meet federal standards, leaving carriers required to replace them with compliant options.
FMCSA Revokes Three Devices in Latest ELD Removal Action
FMCSA has revoked three electronic logging devices from its approved list after they failed to meet federal standards. The move marks another ELD Removal action as the agency continues to monitor device compliance across the industry.
ELD Removal List Includes Three Non-Compliant Devices
FMCSA announced the ELD Removal of :
- TT ELD PT30,
- ELOG42,
- RENAISSANCE ELD.
The agency said these devices no longer meet the federal performance and technical requirements in Part 395. Once removed, the devices are no longer considered compliant, and carriers cannot use them to record hours of service.
Because the devices have been revoked, they now appear in the “Revoked Devices” section of the federal registry.
ELD Removal Requires Carriers to Switch Devices
With the Removal decision in place, carriers using the three devices must switch to a compliant ELD within the allowed 60-day period. Until a new device is installed, drivers must record their hours using paper logs or compliant logging software.
During this transition period, FMCSA has advised enforcement officers not to issue citations for failure to use a registered device, as long as the driver is using proper backup logs.
However, once the 60-day window closes, carriers using a revoked device could face compliance violations during roadside inspections.
Why FMCSA Revoked the Devices
The agency said the three devices failed to meet the required technical standards that ensure accurate recording of driving time, engine hours, and other safety-related data. ELD Removal is the process used when a device fails to meet these standards.
FMCSA said the decision supports its goal of maintaining accuracy and safety in electronic logging. The agency continues to audit and review devices to make sure only compliant ELDs remain on the approved list.
ELD Removal Highlights the Need for Careful Device Selection
The latest Removal action signals stronger oversight for the entire ELD market. Carriers will need to check the federal registry often to make sure their devices remain approved. Using a revoked device can lead to HOS violations, out-of-service orders, or delays during inspections.
For ELD providers, the removals underscore the importance of meeting all federal requirements. Devices that fail to comply risk being removed at any time.
What This Means for the Industry
The three-device ELD Removal action reinforces FMCSA’s enforcement approach and shows the agency is willing to act quickly when devices fall short. Carriers and drivers using these units must replace them as soon as possible to stay compliant.
The decision also serves as a reminder that the ELD market continues to evolve as technology changes and federal standards tighten.
