Brake Safety Week Aims to Reduce Roadway Risks

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) launched Brake Safety Week on August 24, and it will run through August 30 across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. During this annual event, inspectors are placing extra focus on brake systems and components in roadside inspections to strengthen highway safety.

Safety Week Focus: Drums and Rotors

This year, Brake Safety Week inspections are emphasizing brake drums and rotors. These parts play a central role in braking performance. Cracks or damage can lower efficiency or even release dangerous debris onto the roadway. To support inspections, some agencies will also use performance-based brake testers to check how brakes perform under real conditions.

Brake Safety Week and CVSA Decals

When vehicles pass inspection without critical violations, they may receive a CVSA decal. This mark shows the truck met inspection standards during Safety Week. However, vehicles with serious brake problems—or other major safety violations—will be placed out of service until repairs are complete.

Inspectors are also collecting inspection data and brake-related violations. CVSA will publish results from Safety Week 2025 later this year, highlighting trends and areas that need improvement.

Education Efforts During Brake Safety Week

Another important part of Brake Safety Week is education. Inspectors, instructors, and motor carriers are all working to raise awareness about brake maintenance. The CVSA offers tools such as brochures, checklists, and postcards to encourage proactive care. By catching small issues early, fleets and drivers can avoid costly breakdowns, service delays, and penalties.

Why Brake Safety Campaign Matters

Brake safety week highlights just how important brake systems are for keeping roads safe. Brake problems remain one of the top out-of-service violations during inspections every year. This initiative combines targeted inspections with educational outreach, creating a stronger culture of maintenance across the trucking industry.

The ultimate goal of brake safety campaign week 2025 is to reduce crashes caused by brake failure and keep highways safer for drivers, fleets, and the public.

Summary of Brake Safety Week 2025

Brake safety week 2025 is focusing on brake drums and rotors, ensuring vehicles meet safety standards through roadside inspections. Trucks that pass earn decals, while those with critical violations are taken out of service. Alongside enforcement, educational outreach promotes year-round brake maintenance. By combining inspection with awareness, safety week continues to play a key role in preventing accidents and improving road safety.
