CVSA shares new details on the 2026 initiative in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, aiming to expand awareness of human trafficking through coordinated outreach.

CVSA Sets 2026 Dates for Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative (HTAI)

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has announced the dates for its 2026 Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative across North America. The effort will take place at different times in each country: Jan. 12–16 in the U.S., Feb. 23–27 in Canada, and March 16–20 in Mexico. The initiative will focus on education and outreach related to human trafficking in the commercial vehicle industry.

How the Human Trafficking Initiative Works

During each country’s five-day awareness period, law enforcement and commercial motor vehicle agencies plan to share information about the signs of human trafficking. They also intend to reach out to drivers, carriers, and the public to raise awareness. After the campaigns wrap up, each jurisdiction will report its results back to CVSA. A summary of those numbers is expected in summer 2026.

Why Human Trafficking Awareness Matters

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime defines human trafficking as the recruitment, transport, or harboring of people through force, fraud, or deception for exploitation. Victims can be adults or children of any background, and the crime happens in every region of the world. Traffickers often use violence, false job offers, and fraudulent employment agencies to control victims.

Because truck drivers travel long distances and pass through many locations, they can play an important role in spotting possible signs of human trafficking.

Support Materials for the 2026 Campaign

CVSA will provide outreach materials to support the initiative. These include wallet cards, posters, and window decals created with help from Truckers Against Trafficking. The materials can be ordered online by CVSA members and participating agencies.

How Drivers and Carriers Can Take Part

Drivers, carriers, and companies that want to join their jurisdiction’s campaign can contact their state or provincial commercial motor vehicle safety agency. Agencies will have details on local outreach plans and how to support the effort. CVSA’s material request form is also available for those who need printed items for distribution.

Human Trafficking Prevention Efforts in the Commercial Vehicle Industry

CVSA’s HTAI is connected to the Alliance’s larger prevention program, which supports enforcement and investigative efforts across North America. This program also focuses on educating commercial motor vehicle professionals so they can better recognize and report possible trafficking activity.

Human trafficking is a global crime affecting millions of people, with both labor and sex trafficking reported in every U.S. and Mexican state and all Canadian provinces. Traffickers often move victims along roadways and through transportation networks, making the commercial vehicle sector an important point of contact.

Because of this, federal advisors have highlighted the need for stronger partnerships between government agencies, law enforcement, and the transportation industry. Their recommendations include using proven enforcement models and expanding industry-specific training to help drivers and officers detect the signs of trafficking more effectively.

What Comes Next

Jurisdictions across the United States, Canada, and Mexico will carry out their awareness activities during the scheduled 2026 dates. After reporting is complete, CVSA plans to publish a summary of the results sometime during the summer.

CVSA’s Ongoing Commitment to Human Trafficking Awareness

CVSA’s Program works to end human trafficking. It focuses on education, outreach, and enforcement.
