Aurora Expands Its Driverless Trucking Program

Aurora Reports Nearly 440,000 Driverless Miles
As part of the announcement, Aurora said its autonomous trucks have completed nearly 440,000 driverless miles since launching commercial operations.
The company said those miles were accumulated while transporting freight on public highways without a driver in the cab. Aurora stated that the experience gained during those operations has helped refine both its hardware and software systems.
Expansion Plans Include More Trucks and Customers
Aurora also outlined plans to expand production of its autonomous truck platform.
According to the company, it is working with manufacturing partner Roush to produce approximately 1,000 autonomous trucks per year once production reaches full capacity.
Aurora also announced that one customer plans to purchase up to 500 trucks equipped with the company’s autonomous driving system. The company did not indicate when those trucks would be delivered or enter commercial service.
The announcement reflects continued investment in autonomous freight technology as companies seek to expand commercial deployments beyond pilot programs.

The latest announcement does not change any current federal rules governing commercial drivers.
