Unmanned Truck Causes Minor Damage in Lawrence, Kansas

KCTV 5 news reports that on Thursday, July 25, an unmanned semi-truck caused a stir in Lawrence, Kansas. The truck rolled through a neighborhood near the University of Kansas football stadium. It happened around 1:30 p.m. The truck crashed into a home’s foundation after rolling about 300 feet.

Incident Details

Emergency crews from the Lawrence, Kansas, Police Department (LKPD) and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical went to the scene. They were called to the area of 11th and Maine Street, across from the David Booth Memorial Stadium. When they arrived, they saw the semi-truck had rolled through a 4-foot retaining wall. It went over a patio and between two houses before stopping against a home’s foundation.

Minimal Damage and No Injuries

Despite the unmanned truck’s long roll, there was not much damage. The semi-truck’s trailer was empty, which likely helped keep damage low. No one was hurt. One person was inside the home that the truck hit, but they were not injured.

The truck driver said he had set both the cab and trailer brakes before leaving the truck. But once he saw the truck moving, he tried to catch up with it but could not.

Small Fire Extinguished

A small fire started after the crash. Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical crews put out the fire quickly. This stopped more damage from happening.

Ongoing Investigation

Investigators are still trying to find out why the truck rolled. The Lawrence Police Department has not yet said if the truck was part of the construction at the David Booth Memorial Stadium.
