PennDOT Enforcement and Safety Partners Launch Aggressive Driving Wave

Overview of the PennDOT Enforcement Campaign

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and several safety partners are starting a new effort to stop aggressive driving. The enforcement wave will run from October 21 through November 10, 2025. Police across the state will take part in this safety campaign. Their goal is to reduce crashes caused by speeding, tailgating, and other risky driving habits.

Focus of the PennDOT Enforcement Wave

During the enforcement period, police will focus on common signs of aggressive driving. They will look for speeding, running red lights, tailgating, ignoring school bus stop signs, and breaking the Move Over Law. These actions often lead to serious crashes.

PennDOT reports that in Washington County last year, there were 86 crashes linked to aggressive driving. Those crashes caused four deaths and 12 major injuries. These numbers show why DOT and its partners are stepping up enforcement efforts.

Safety Partners Supporting PennDOT Enforcement

The enforcement campaign includes teamwork between local and state groups. Partners include the Highway Safety Network, the South Strabane Police Department, and the South Strabane Fire Department. Together, they plan to raise awareness about the risks of aggressive driving. Their joint effort also helps remind the public that unsafe driving can have deadly results.

How the PennDOT Enforcement Affects Truck Drivers

The enforcement wave will also affect truck drivers and other commercial motor vehicle operators. Officers will watch for unsafe truck behaviors such as tailgating, speeding, or not moving over for emergency vehicles.Truck drivers are encouraged to slow down, keep a safe distance, and remain alert in all traffic conditions. Simple actions, such as leaving more space between vehicles and checking mirrors often, can prevent accidents.

What Drivers Can Expect on Pennsylvania Roads

Motorists will likely see more police patrols during the enforcement period. Officers may use radar and marked or unmarked patrol cars to find aggressive drivers. Both passenger and commercial drivers will be monitored closely.

Those caught breaking traffic laws may face tickets, fines, or other penalties. PennDOT hopes that stronger enforcement will remind drivers to stay calm, patient, and focused behind the wheel.

Safety Tips from the PennDOT Team

PennDOT and its partners are sharing several tips to help reduce road rage and keep drivers safe:

  • Stay calm when faced with an aggressive driver.
  • Move aside safely if someone is tailgating or driving recklessly.
  • Avoid blocking passing lanes or cutting off other vehicles.
  • Never follow or chase another driver after a conflict.
  • If needed, report unsafe driving once you’re off the road and safe.

Goal of the Enforcement Initiative

The main goal of the enforcement effort is to cut down on crashes caused by dangerous driving. By combining extra patrols with public education, DOT and its safety partners want to make Pennsylvania roads safer for everyone.

This enforcement wave is one of several safety campaigns planned this year. Each one aims to protect lives and promote respect among all drivers. Working together, PennDOT, law enforcement, and commercial drivers can help make highways across the state safer and more predictable.
