New Paccar Truck Recall: Accelerator Pedal May Stick
PACCAR is recalling over 1,000 Kenworth and Peterbilt models due to a Paccar truck accelerator pedal issue that could increase the risk of a crash.
PACCAR Truck Recall: Over 1,000 Kenworth and Peterbilt Trucks Due to Accelerator Pedal Issue
PACCAR, the manufacturer of Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks, has announced a recall impacting more than 1,000 trucks from the 2023-2024 model years. The Paccar truck recall was issued following the discovery of a potential safety issue with the accelerator pedal, which could increase the risk of a crash.
Details of the Paccar Truck Recall
According to documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall is tied to the throttle pedal assembly. Affected pedals may contain an oversized magnet carrier, which can reduce responsiveness or cause the pedal to stick. This malfunction could make the vehicle harder to control, posing a safety risk.
The issue has been linked to an error in the molding tool used to manufacture the magnet carrier. If the accelerator pedal fails to return to its idle position upon release, applying the service brake can temporarily correct the issue. However, exposure to fluids may worsen the problem.
Affected Paccar Truck Models
The recall applies to the following PACCAR trucks, all from model years 2023-2024 unless otherwise specified:
- Kenworth Models: T180, T280, T380, and T480
- Peterbilt Models: 535, 536, 537, and 548
The faulty throttle pedals were supplied by Orscheln, a manufacturer that has issued a broader recall covering over 4,000 throttle pedals. These pedals were sold not only to PACCAR but also to specialty truck manufacturer Oshkosh.
Reports and Resolution
As of January 14, PACCAR had received five warranty claims regarding this issue. However, there have been no field reports, injuries, or fatalities related to the problem.
To resolve the issue, PACCAR has instructed its authorized dealers to inspect and replace the affected throttle pedals free of charge. Owners of the impacted vehicles can expect to receive notification letters starting March 17, 2025.
