New Kansas Travel Plaza to Serve 1,700 Commercial Trucks Daily

A new Kansas travel plaza is under construction in Jackson County, promising a major boost for truck drivers along U.S. Highway 75. The project, led by Prairie Band, LLC, broke ground this week and is scheduled to open in early 2027.

When finished, the plaza is expected to serve about 1,700 commercial trucks every day, offering drivers new parking and modern amenities.

Kansas Travel Plaza Project Details

The new Kansas travel plaza will sit near Mayetta, at the intersection of U.S. 75 and 150th Road. It is part of the 150/75 Development Project, a plan designed to grow regional business and improve travel infrastructure.

The plaza will cover about 12,000 square feet and include:

  • Diesel and gasoline pumps
  • A convenience store with food options
  • Truck parking with easy access to the highway
  • Restrooms and showers
  • EV charging stations

Project leaders say the plaza is being built to meet growing demand from truckers who need safe, reliable places to park and rest along this key corridor.

Economic Impact of the Kansas Travel Plaza

The Kansas travel plaza is expected to create around 30 permanent jobs once complete. It will also bring new revenue to the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, which owns the development through Prairie Band, LLC.

Leaders say the project will strengthen local businesses and connect to other tribal enterprises, including the Prairie Band Casino & Resort and nearby golf courses. Together, they aim to make the area a more attractive stop for travelers and professional drivers alike.

What the Kansas Travel Plaza Means for Truck Drivers

For truck drivers, the travel plaza will add new options along a busy stretch of highway. Many truckers face parking shortages, and this project could help relieve some of that pressure.

With space for 1,700 trucks daily, the plaza is expected to become a major stop for north-south freight traffic through the state. It will also feature modern facilities designed for long-haul comfort and convenience.

Industry groups say more projects like this can help reduce congestion at older truck stops and improve safety by giving drivers more legal parking spots.

Kansas Travel Plaza Construction Timeline

Construction on the Kansas travel plaza has already started. Site preparation and utility work are underway, and full buildout is planned to finish in early 2027.

Officials say the long timeline gives them time to ensure high-quality design and reliable infrastructure. Once complete, the plaza will be ready to handle thousands of travelers each day — including commercial drivers, tourists, and local commuters.

Looking Ahead

The Kansas travel plaza marks an important investment in Kansas’s highway network and trucking infrastructure. It will provide more parking, jobs, and services for drivers who keep freight moving across the Midwest.

As the project moves forward, more updates will be released by Prairie Band, LLC, and Jackson County officials.
