International Motors Now Recalling 1300 Trucks Due to Brake Issue
International Motors recalls over 1,300 LT and RH trucks after a clogged HSA exhaust port was found to delay brake release, increasing the risk of a crash.
International Motors Recalls Over 1,300 Trucks for Brake Release Defect
International Motors has announced a new safety recall affecting more than 1,300 commercial trucks. Federal investigators found a brake issue that could keep the service brakes from releasing. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) published the recall on November 13, 2025.
International Motors Identifies Brake Exhaust Port Problem
NHTSA documents show that the issue is linked to the Hill Start Assist (HSA) valve used on specific International LT (2023–2026) and RH (2024–2025) trucks. The exhaust port on this valve can become clogged by road debris or ice. The brake system may trap pressure and slow the release of the service brakes. Dragging brakes during operation may raise the risk of a crash.
1,303 Vehicles Are Affected
The recall covers a total of 1,303 trucks. International Motors reviewed earlier recall data and discovered that some vehicles were not included in a previous campaign, while others were added by mistake. The affected population includes trucks built between October 2022 and April 2025 with a specific frame-rail and transmission setup. These trucks have the HSA valve mounted outside the frame rail, which makes the exhaust port more exposed to the elements.
How the Issue was Found
The recall timeline shows that the problem surfaced after a customer tried to complete repairs on a separate brake-related recall in late September 2025. The technician could not find the valve in the location listed in the instructions. A second report came in during October, which led International Motors to investigate.
By early November, the company confirmed errors in the earlier recall population and declared this new safety recall, numbered 25522.
International Motors Will Relocate the HSA Exhaust Valve
To fix the issue, International Motors will reroute the HSA valve exhaust to a safer location. This repair is free to affected truck owners. NHTSA confirmed that owner notification letters were mailed on January 12, 2026, and that VINs became searchable in the federal recall system on January 5, 2026.
Federal Oversight of the Recall
In its recall acknowledgment letter, NHTSA reminded International Motors that it must meet all reporting and communication requirements under federal law. The agency also noted that manufacturers cannot sell or deliver vehicles with known safety defects that have been reported to NHTSA.
