Big semi truck crashes into a historic Michigan church after a signal failure, causing minor injuries and raising safety concerns in the community.
MLive.com reports a semi-truck carrying construction equipment crashed into a historic church in Washtenaw County, Michigan. The accident happened around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28. The crash was caused by a broken traffic light at the intersection of Pleasant Lake Road and M-52, near Manchester.
Michigan State Police Lt. Michelle Robinson said the semi-truck was going west on Pleasant Lake Road. It entered the intersection where the traffic signal was not working. At the same time, a pickup truck pulling a trailer was driving north on M-52. The semi-truck hit the pickup truck and then crashed into Sharon Church.
Sharon Church is a historic building that was built in 1876. It is an important part of the local community’s history. The church has been a place of worship and community events for nearly 150 years. There is no information yet about how badly the church was damaged in the crash.
The crash happened because the traffic signal at the intersection was not working. According to Michigan law, drivers should treat an intersection with a broken signal as a four-way stop. It is unclear if this rule was followed in this situation. Lt. Robinson stressed the need for drivers to follow traffic laws to prevent accidents.
Thankfully, only minor injuries were reported, Lt. Robinson said. Emergency services were quick to respond to the scene, providing help to those involved. Their fast action helped keep the situation under control and prevented more injuries or damage.
The accident has raised concerns in the local community about the safety of the intersection and the future of Sharon Church. The church is not just a building; it is a historic landmark with deep meaning for many people in the area. Everyone is waiting to hear more about the church’s condition and any repairs that may be needed.
