Averitt, known for its significant presence in the trucking industry, has made a noteworthy expansion in Mobile, Alabama. The company has unveiled a new, state-of-the-art facility at the South Alabama Logistics Park, marking a crucial step in bolstering its operations along the Gulf Coast.
This advanced facility, sprawling over a 120,000-square-foot area, includes a warehouse and a 35,000-square-foot cross-dock. What stands out is the facility’s design, tailored to meet the evolving needs of the trucking and logistics sector. It boasts a 60-door LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) dock, complete with a ground-level access ramp and dock leveler, ensuring smoother and more efficient loading and unloading processes. The adjoining warehouse, which is fully ventilated and heated, features an additional 20 doors, providing ample space for cargo handling.
An exciting aspect of this expansion is the creation of 32 new jobs, a significant boost to the local economy. This addition complements the retention of 47 existing jobs in Mobile, showcasing Averitt’s commitment to the community and its workforce.
For truckers, the facility’s design includes more than just cargo space. It encompasses over 400 truck and trailer parking spaces and a Driver Support center equipped with various amenities. This focus on driver welfare is a testament to Averitt’s understanding of the trucking industry’s needs.
Security at the facility is top-notch, featuring enhanced measures to ensure the safety of cargo and personnel. This aspect is crucial, considering the strategic location of the facility near the Port of Mobile. The port is a pivotal point for international cargo distribution, and Averitt’s facility plays a significant role in supporting both regional shippers and global businesses.
Barry Blakely, Averitt’s president and COO, highlights the company’s dual focus on meeting regional shipping needs and embracing eco-friendly practices. The facility reflects this commitment through its inclusion of energy-efficient LED lighting with motion sensors, all-electric forklifts, and other green technologies. These features align with Averitt’s sustainability initiatives, underscoring the company’s dedication to environmentally responsible operations.
Averitt’s roots in Mobile date back to 1988, and this latest development marks a continuation of their longstanding presence in the region. The new facility not only reinforces Averitt’s role in regional and international logistics but also demonstrates its forward-thinking approach in the ever-evolving world of trucking and transportation.
For truckers and those involved in the trucking industry, Averitt’s expansion in Mobile is more than just a new facility. It represents a commitment to improving the logistics landscape, enhancing job opportunities, and prioritizing both environmental sustainability and driver support. As the industry continues to grow and change, Averitt’s new facility stands as a beacon of innovation and progress in the heart of Alabama.
