FMCSA Removes 8 ELDs Due to Compliance Failures

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has officially removed eight electronic logging devices (ELDs) manufactured by Gorilla Fleet Safety, LLC from its list of approved ELDs. This action took effect on May 12, 2025, and impacts thousands of commercial drivers and motor carriers who rely on these devices for hours-of-service (HOS) tracking.

Which ELDs Were Removed from the List?

The following devices have been moved to the FMCSA’s Revoked Devices list after failing to meet the minimum requirements outlined in Title 49 CFR Appendix A to Subpart B of Part 395:

  • AllwaysTrack
  • Command Alkon Trackit
  • ELDX
  • Gorilla Safety Compact ELD
  • HCSS ELD
  • LB Technologies FleetTrack HOS
  • Simplex ELD 2GO
  • Trucker Path ELD Pro

These devices are no longer considered compliant and must be replaced to avoid violations.

What Truck Drivers and Carriers Must Do Now

Motor carriers and drivers using any of the revoked ELDs have 60 days from the removal date to take corrective action. FMCSA has outlined two immediate steps to stay compliant:

  • Stop using the revoked devices and switch to paper logs or logging software to track hours of service.
  • Replace the revoked ELDs with compliant ones from FMCSA’s Registered Devices list before the deadline of July 11, 2025.

The current list of compliant ELDs can be found at:

Enforcement and Out-of-Service Warnings

Between now and July 11, safety officials have been instructed not to issue violations to drivers using these revoked ELDs under the following rules:

  • 395.8(a)(1) – “No record of duty status”

  • 395.22(a) – “Failing to use a registered ELD”

Instead, officials will ask to review paper logs, logging software records, or the ELD’s current display output as a temporary backup.

However, beginning July 11, 2025, enforcement will change significantly. Drivers found operating with one of the revoked devices will be cited under 395.8(a)(1) and may be placed out-of-service (OOS) based on CVSA’s OOS Criteria.

Can These ELDs Be Reapproved?

Yes—if Gorilla Fleet Safety, LLC, corrects all deficiencies, the FMCSA may restore the devices to the Registered Devices list. Should that happen, the agency will announce the update publicly.

In the meantime, the FMCSA is strongly urging all motor carriers to act now rather than wait.
