Texas SafeDRIVE Initiative: Simple Steps to Better Road Safety
August 6th-8th, the Texas SafeDRIVE initiative will be enforced along Texas interstates. The 72-hour enforcement will target dangerous CMV driving behaviors.
Texas Department of Public Safety Announces SafeDRIVE Enforcement
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is starting a new safety plan called SafeDRIVE. This plan will run from August 6-8, 2024, and aims to make our highways safer. SafeDRIVE stands for Distracted Reckless Impaired Visibility Enforcement. It will take place on Interstates 10, 20, 35, 40, and 45.
What is the Texas SafeDRIVE Initiative?
SafeDRIVE aims to stop accidents with big trucks. DPS will work with police in nearby states to watch for dangerous driving. They will look for drivers who are speeding, tailgating, not wearing seat belts, using phones, or driving under the influence. They will also make sure truck drivers follow all the rules.
Texas SafeDRIVE Safety Tips for Drivers
DPS wants all drivers to follow these safety tips:
Stay Out of Blind Spots: Big trucks have large blind spots on all sides. Try not to drive in these areas.
Pass Safely: Make sure you can see the truck driver in their mirror before passing. Do not stay in their blind spot. Make sure the truck is visible in your mirror before moving in front of it.
Don’t Cut Off Trucks: Big trucks need more space to stop. Cutting them off can cause accidents.
Don’t Tailgate: Tailgating a truck puts you in a blind spot and increases the risk of a crash.
Buckle Up: Wearing a seatbelt can save your life. Always wear your seatbelt.
Put the Phone Down: Using a phone while driving is illegal and dangerous. Do not text and drive.
Making Roads Safer
SafeDRIVE is about everyone working together to make our roads safer. By following these tips, drivers can help prevent accidents. DPS and police from nearby states are working hard to keep our highways safe.
