EV adoption could accelerate as Greenlane breaks ground on a new California charging site in Colton, set to power the future of zero-emission vehicles on I-15.
A recent press release announced Greenlane, a partnership between Daimler Truck North America, NextEra Energy Resources, and BlackRock, has started building a new electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Colton, California. This is the first in a series of charging stations planned along Interstate 15, which connects Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
The Colton station will provide charging for zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs), including trucks, delivery vans, and passenger cars. When fully built, the site will have over 60 chargers. This will help drivers of electric vehicles, especially truck drivers, who need to charge their trucks on long trips. The expansion of charging stations like this one is critical for supporting widespread EV adoption.
John O’Leary, CEO of Daimler Truck North America, spoke at the event:
“The establishment of this flagship charging site in Colton is a testament to the power of collaboration and shared vision. We are confident that this project will help to accelerate widespread adoption of zero-emission vehicles and drive the future of sustainable transportation by addressing the urgent need for a publicly available, nationwide electric charging infrastructure.”
Greenlane received a $15 million grant from the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). This money will help build the Colton station faster. Greenlane plans to have the site ready by the end of 2024. This will be a major boost for EV adoption in California, as more charging stations are key to supporting electric vehicle growth.
Patrick Macdonald-King, CEO of Greenlane, emphasized the importance of this milestone:
“The Colton charging site represents a major step forward in reducing emissions along several transportation corridors, while also benefiting the region economically in the long term.”
The Colton site is part of Greenlane’s larger plan. They want to build charging stations all over the country. These stations will help electric trucks and other vehicles stay charged on the road. In the future, Greenlane plans to offer hydrogen refueling for trucks as well.
As more trucking companies switch to electric vehicles, EV adoption will rise. But drivers need reliable places to charge their trucks, especially on long trips. This station in Colton will make it easier for electric trucks to stay on the road.
The project has support from local leaders and partners. Greenlane is working with businesses and the government to build these charging stations. Grants like the one from SCAQMD help make these projects possible and encourage EV adoption by providing the necessary infrastructure.
Greenlane’s goal is to build electric and hydrogen charging stations across the U.S. These stations will help reduce pollution and improve air quality. They will also support the trucking industry as it moves toward cleaner, zero-emission vehicles. The expansion of this infrastructure is vital for the long-term success of EV adoption.
